Would You Rather be Best or Better?

Take this challenge - which is the higher level to achieve? Best or better?

Change is constant and necessary. If continual improvement is not sought, even those considered the best at something, will be caught and passed by those that continue to improve. Stagnation is the enemy of the best. Choosing to seek better continually will ensure that you are always reaching your full potential.

When looking at specific areas of expertise or even records, people can be considered the ‘best.’ If you are a record holder for any type of contest, then you are likely, at that moment, considered the best at that event. However, if you do not continue to improve, someone else is likely to come along and beat your record. It is because they continued to get better at what they do, versus being comfortable with being the best.

This is all a matter of potential. Not everyone can be the best at something, everything, or anything. You can work to be your best and continue to make small improvements to reach your full potential.

Mark Sanborn, author of the Potential Principle states, ‘you need to disrupt yourself before someone else does.’ Looking for ways to improve what you do, or how you do it can ensure that you keep developing yourself to be better.

You need to disrupt yourself before someone else does.

There is no such thing as perfect, especially when thinking in terms of personal development or learning. Your 'best' self is when you are continuing to learn more and put the new knowledge into action and becoming better.

How will you continue to ‘better’ yourself?
